It looks like Fiona Apple will soon know how it feels to be a “Criminal.”
Texas border patrol agents arrested Apple, 35, after finding marijuana and hashish on her tour bus, CNN reported, Thursday.
The singer was arrested Wednesday night at a checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Texas when a drug-sniffing dog detected controlled substances onboard the bus, the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. According to the statement, the agents found 0.010 pounds of marijuana and 0.010 pounds of hashish.
“Fiona Apple Maggart, freely admitted that the controlled substances belonged to her and she was placed under arrest by U.S. Border Patrol agents and detained,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Apple was transported to the Hudspeth County Jail and was released on Thursday after posting a $10,000 bond.
Siera Blanca is located in Hudspeth County, Texas and is approximately 20 miles from the Mexican border. The checkpoint also sits along I-10, an interstate highway that runs from Los Angeles, making it a popular highway for musicians and film companies traveling through the Southwest.
Incidentally, Apple is only latest in a list of celebrities who have been arrested at the checkpoint; Armie Hammer, Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson have all been busted in Sierra Blanca.
“With Fiona, if all she’d had was the marijuana, she would have gotten a ticket and none of this would have happened,” said Rusty Fleming, public information officer for the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office. “But she had hashish, and in Texas, having any amount is a felony.”
The singer is currently on tour promoting her new album and was scheduled to perform in Austin Thursday night.
